COURSE OVERVIEW:
Nature photography is a great way to blend artistic creativity, a technical craft, a love for nature and the outdoors into a gratifying hobby. Palo Alto and the Bay Area are great places to learn Nature photography for it is one of the most beautiful and bio diverse areas in the nation. Now, with the advancements of digital photography, it is also a great time to pick up this hobby. Digital photography has reduced the cost, effort and complexity of nature photography and has made it more accessible to a larger audience.
This class is targeted for the photographer interested in learning more about the equipment, styles, techniques of nature photography as well understanding the opportunities in the Bay Area for nature photography. The class will utilize lecture, hands-on coaching, field trips, and photograph critique.
By the end of this course, participants will:
1.Become familiar with the equipment, styles, and techniques used in nature photography.
2.Create nature photographs using the techniques taught in the course.
3.Understand how to improve selected photos.
4.Understand the nature-related photographic opportunities that exist within in the Bay Area.
PREREQUISITES:
A. Required – familiarity with and access to:
- Digital Camera with the following controls: Focus, Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO
- Broad range zoom lens
- Computer with Photo Editing Software (e.g., Photoshop Elements, Photoshop CS2 or later, Lightroom, Aperture, etc.)
B. Desired:
- Macro, Wide, and Telephoto lenses
- Tripod
- Photo Printer or access to a commercial printer
