David will be talking about a career in sports photography which encompasses both event photography and image creation for advertising and stock

David Madison’s extensive career in sports photography began as a hobby while in high school, progressed into part-time freelance work for the university athletic department while he was in college (Stanford University, BA Architecture ‘74), and from then into a full-time profession encompassing a wide range of the sports photography universe.

One of David’s areas of particular expertise has been Olympic sports; and he has photographed eleven Olympic Games: Five Summer Olympics (Los Angeles 1984, Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, and Sydney 2000), and Six Winter Olympics (Sarajevo 1984, Calgary 1988, Albertville 1992, Lillehammer 1994, Nagano 1998, Salt Lake 2002).  His work from the Olympics has been seen worldwide in magazines like Newsweek and Sports Illustrated.  Major Olympic sponsors, including Kodak, IBM, and the US Postal Service have used his work in their Olympic promotions.

David’s style of imagery tends towards conceptual and symbolic renditions of sport, with a particular eye for strong and graphic compositions.

He is considered by many in the industry to be one of the world’s leading producers of sports stock imagery, and his work is licensed globally through the world’s premier photo agencies.  David’s background in sports event photography combined with his experience in the advertising world give him a strong ability to create unique and authentic imagery for the stock image market.

David’s work has been published in virtually every corner of the world by every form of media.  From Sports Illustrated to Der Spiegel, LIFE to L' Equipe, his photographs have appeared in magazines around the globe.  Advertising projects worldwide have included work for clients such as Levi Strauss, Kodak, Ford, Champion, Nike, Hewlett Packard, Digital, Yoplait, Bank of America, and British Airways.

Based in California’s San Francisco Bay area, David frequently uses the diverse geographic locations of the Western United States for much of his work; while his foreign travels have taken him to numerous countries, and continents as far flung as Africa and Antarctica.
