In September 2012, Judy Kramer traveled to Guinea in West Africa to observe and photograph the impact on the ground of the Kiwanis International/UNICEF health initiative, called the Eliminate Project. The goal of the Eliminate Project is to eliminate the tetanus that kills mothers and 60,000 newborns every year in remote regions.  Although unknown in the developed world, maternal neonatal tetanus remains a threat in 30 countries, where women are not immunized and babies are born in unsanitary circumstances. While UNICEF provides the expertise in the field, Kiwanis International has committed to raising $110 million by June 2015 to end this deadly but preventable disease.
Judy is a longtime Palo Alto Camera Club member, having been club co-president in 2007 and 2008. She is also the Eliminate Project coordinator for the Kiwanis Club of Palo Alto. She will share her photos and talk about her experience in Guinea and the photography challenges of this kind of trip.
