Special Program
with Lewis Kemper

with Lewis Kemper
Wednesday, 23 May, 2012
Free and open to the public
Renowned photographer Lewis Kemper will give an illustrated talk on the three main components of color photography – Light, Composition and Color and how one can harness these components to create great photographs. When you are taking pictures, you are doing two things: capturing light, and placing a frame around something that exists.  The program will concentrate on these steps by emphasizing the importance of light, color, and the placement of the frame.
The first half of the equation – capturing light on film, will cover areas such as the qualities of light, front light, side light, back light, front light, diffuse light and HDR.  Lewis will discuss color relationships including cool with a warm accent; warm with a cool accent; no color color; saturated color; pastel color; and monochromatic color.  The second half of the equation – placing a frame around something that exists, will concentrate on lens choice; leading lines; placement of elements, highlights and colors; and basic design principles.
Lewis Kemper has been photographing the natural beauty of North America, and its parklands for over 30 years. Lewis photographs in color using Canon digital cameras and 4 x 5 cameras.  He has been selected to Canon’s Explorers of Lightprogram featuring 62 of the country’s most influential photographers. His work has been sold for editorial and commercial uses in over 16 different countries ranging from national ads to book covers. His monograph, “Capturing the Light†won the People’s Choice Awards in Fine Art in the 2009 Photography.Book.Now competition. His latest publication “Photographing Yosemite Digital Field Guide†was voted in the top 20 field guides. And he produces the acclaimed Photoshop training DVD’s “The Photographer’s Toolbox for Photoshop®â€. Lewis is a contributing editor to Outdoor Photographer and Digital Photo magazines and NANPA Currents magazine. His website is www.LewisKemper.com.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
